My General ONYX Strong Portion Snus Review

General ONYX Strong Portion Snus: if you’re looking for a great snus then this is the stuff to get! ONYX has been the flagship of the General Snus line since 2006 and it is quickly apparent why……

General ONYX is a classic snus for good reason

Let’s start off with the sleek can design. It’s all blacked out with a touch of silver. The General Snus logo makes the can stand out with a giant catch lid, a real crowd stopper in my opinion.

When Matt and I our out on a special occasion, he is sometimes confronted with the difficult decision to bring Crafted Snus Whisky, a Skruf snus or General ONYX.

To cover his back, I will slip a can of ONYX into my purse just in case he gets a craving for something different to pair with a craft beer or single malt scotch.

Over time and after slipping a portion or two myself, I found out why he is so intrigued with General ONYX. Now it’s a bonus treat for me too!

Cracking open the lid. The portions are black and arranged in that classic “star formation” which reminded me of charcoal (for some weird reason) but they do not stain your teeth! The portion is actually a white portion format just dyed black… (Sleek!).

White portion snus (regardless of the pouch color) is dry to the touch while moist inside.  The flavor takes longer than a wet original portion, but lasts longer.  In the case of General ONYX, the flavor lasts and lasts…. up to an hour and a half at its best.

Taking a smell, the citrus flavors such as orange and lemon are really prominent. Looking at the portions, they are flat and somewhat thin, but the incredibly soft material gives way to a great fit in the upper lip with hardly no irritation.

The ONYX flavor is exceptionally top notch. I’m mostly a mint snuser with this being the exception; with hints of roasted lemon peel, black pepper, smoky notes and a touch of salt, IT REALY BLASTS YOU IN THE FACE with bold tobacco flavors and lingering’s of smoke mixed with citrus.

ONYX is the best rendition of the classic General taste just amplified and pushed to 11! This is one of my favorite tobacco flavors.

General ONYX and nicotine

Disclaimer: Sometimes different snus can give me the jitters because I’m not used to nicotine.

I would say the nicotine level in General ONYX does not bother me too much. It’s there and sitting at what feels like 1.2%. 

I can feel the nicotine but as a (black) white portion, the run is slower than an original portion.   General ONYX doesn’t make the nicotine hit me too hard. Swedish Match perfected this flavor and nicotine to a level way above what I could ever imagine.

No real negatives with this snus. Buy a roll of General ONYX Strong Portion Snus and you will not be disappointed! ONYX is a real treat for all tobacco-centric snus lovers!
