Philip Morris 1847 Snus Production to be Moved!

Confirmation of Previous intelligence:  Production of Philip Morris 1847 Snus to be moved:  Rocker Factory to be closed down……..May 28, 2009

SnusCIA has been hearing credible rumors concerning a production move of both the Philip Morris 1847 Portion and Philip Morris 1847 White Portion ever since the PMI/SMAB Joint Venture was announced.

As you are aware, two Swedish Match Officials: “Joakim” and “Markus” have been…visitors at the SnusCENTRAL Command Post while certain immigration issues are resolved allowing them to return to Sweden.

We first interviewed Joakim and even gave him a refreshing drink some ill-informed rabble-rousers call “Water Boarding”.  Despite a number of refreshing drinks, Joakim refused to comment.

In a move which if it wasn’t accidental, could certainly construed by some as torture, we inadvertently locked Markus in a small room with three cans of Klondike Snus.  Within 10 minutes, after he stopped screaming, he gave us his access codes and we obtained the following information from SMAB databases:

Rocker AB in Arvika, with the brand “1847 by Philip Morris”, was acquired in February of Swedish Match by Philip Morris International in connection with the publication of the two companies form a joint company – a so-called joint venture – to commercialize Swedish snus globally, in markets outside Scandinavia and the USA.

Today, Wednesday May 27, notified the staff of Rocker to the activities in Arvika terminated during the third quarter of this year. Development and production of “1847” is transferred to Gothenburg and Kungälv. The decision was preceded by an investigation of how rockers snuff production can be integrated and coordinated with the Swedish Match other global supply chain and development. Given that “1847 by Philip Morris” has a market share of only one tenth of a percent, it is not economically justified to maintain it in its own manufacturing plant in Arvika. Therefore, production would be transferred to the company’s snus factories in Göteborg and Kungälv, to exploit these fabrikers scale.

The decision affects ten employees on the Rocker. Some employees will be offered continued employment in Swedish Match. Other alerts of dismissal. These will be subject to Swedish Match conversion programs including involves extended periods of notice, opportunity to obtain a personal conversion assistance, labor freedom in the notice and given vocational training to facilitate the possibility of obtaining new work.

Swedish Match other activities in Arvika not affected by this decision.
