General Kardus Fäviken 2016 is one of the most exciting Kardus special edition snuses ever issued; at least since my favorite Kardus Superior Edition 2009 was released.
General Kardus Fäviken 2016 is very special for a few reasons. This year is the 150th Anniversary of General Snus, the world's largest selling brand of Swedish Snus.
As such, this year's Kardus had to be not only unique, but an exquisite expression of the soul of Johan A Boman who created General Snus in 1866 as reinterpreted by a comparable genius in his own craft today. This man is Chef Magnus Nilsson at Fäviken Magasinet.....
In an atmosphere of increasing regulation of tobacco companies, it has become common for them to stretch laws, or work around them in order to advertise their products to adult consumers. The darkening markets of Europe have made communication increasingly difficult, and while some new regulations have no effect whatsoever on consumption (large, or pictorial health warnings, tar and nicotine limits, ending the use of strength descriptors such as “lights,” etc.), those that limit brand communication can be annoyingly effective. Here are some laws I have encountered, and the ways tobacco companies have creatively (or accidentally) shimmied around them.
The Road Trip to Sweden Series: June 2009, chronicles Larry Waters' diplomatic mission to Stockholm and Gothenburg Sweden. Swedish Match AB "suggested" we come visit them concerning the Joakim/Markus in "alleged" captivity issue and some other things. SnusCENTRAL in Sweden: it wasn't like the old Danish invasions of centuries past, but comes pretty close!
June 11 & 12, 2009: When you want to intimidate the people you are negotiating with, what better way than a show of force? The old Soviet Union had their May Day parade; a seemingly endless line of tanks, troops, ballistic missiles, and the like. China does the same thing to this day in Tienanmen Square each year. The Nuclear Freeze proponents of the 1970's and 1980's were sure intimidated. Ronald Reagan wasn't, but that's another story for another website.
When I arrived at Landvetter Airport, Swedish Match plain clothed security personnel escorted us into an armoured limousine for the 30 minute drive to the Swedish Match Gothenburg Snus Factory. Before we had a chance to sit down and discuss the Joakim/Markus situation, Jens Karlsson took us on a tour of the Gothenburg Snus Factory. Jens was the lead negotiator for Swedish Match AB.
The following day, we were back in our armoured limo and off to the new snus factory in Kungälv. The details of both tours along with many more pictures from our secret Spy Shop pen-cameras will follow in later articles. There is so much to tell and so many highlights that one article can't hold them all....at least without giving you severe eyestrain.
The title of this article is Four Million Cans of Swedish Snus...Swedish Match snus to be precise. These were the heavy tanks of Jen's Swedish Match show of force. It was very effective.

June 11, 2009: It was a very foggy morning in Stockholm as our aircraft made the final approach into Arlanda Airport. On our grainy steerage-class video monitors, we switched to the channel showing the forward-viewing camera.

June 10th: As I’ve alluded to earlier on Twitter, our trip to Sweden thus far has been fraught with intrigue and geo-political maneuvering.
This article by By Louise Nordstrom, of The Associated Press for Yahoo! Canada expresses the well justified frustration Sweden has with the EU over the Snus Ban of 1992.
SnusCENTRAL.org supports the efforts of Swedish Trade Minister Ewa Bjorling in overturning the ridiculous ban on Swedish Snus. Fighting against him are the politicians and so-called scientists who ignore the overwhelming evidence that Swedish Snus is the most reduced harm tobacco product in existence. What drives them: Ego, refusal to admit they were wrong, protectionism of cigarettes, Big EU Tobacco Money, a disdain for Sweden in general? Yes to all of these.
But Sweden does assume the rotating Presidency of the EU this July. Swedish Snus and the unfair and likely illegal trade embargo the EU imposed on Sweden are now in play.
Mysteriously, this article was closed to comments before any comments were made! Their loss.
