Snus flavored with spirits is a tradition going back hundreds of years to the beginnings of snus itself. Farmers in Sweden who made the first snuses for their own use often went beyond the basic tobacco, water, and salt recipe. It comes as no surprise that wine and spirits were among the different ingredients added to home-made snus.
Mass-marketed Swedish snus flavored with alcoholic beverages have come a long way since Probe Whiskey Portion Snus was launched in 1994. While Probe has been delisted this year, 2016 will bring forth new snuses flavored with whisky, rum, and bourbon....
BREAKING: The SnusCENTRAL Intelligence Agency (SnusCIA) has intercepted communications from Swedish Match indicating the delisting of four current snus products.....
Since 2014 Swedish Match and Mackmyra Whisky have been secretly collaborating on a premium whisky snus project; General Mackmyra Whisky Snus. The release was timed to occur in 2016; the 150th anniversary year of General Snus.
Not a word of General Mackmyra leaked out until December 2015; 5 months prior to its planned release date and 3 months prior to the official product announcement. Numerous pictures, reviews, and product information spread like a virus throughout social media, much to the chagrin of Swedish Match.
It seemed there was little more to know about General Mackmyra prior to the official 15 Feb 2016 (GMT+1) product announcement but I'm happy to tell you there is some tasty information left plus some snus trivia which I can finally now share with you....
Reporting from a pub somewhere in Sweden, Snus Legend Moe Unz writes about the arrival of the new XRANGE General Salmiak Slim Portion Snus and XRANGE Grov Slim Portion Snus.
Here the story of XRANGE snus and the first 2016 additions to the brand; XRANGE General Salmiak Slim Portion Snus and XRANGE Grov Slim Portion Snus.
He also answers important questions such as what is the flavor difference between licorice and salmiak and can he drink Peter Hagberg from Swedish Match under the table...we all know the answer to the second question.

UPDATED: Swedish snus manufacturers and Swedish Match in particular have a problem: unauthorized information on future product releases leaking all over social media and other sources prior to the official release.....
By the time this post is published, I, Moe Unz will be quite full of food, drink and snus. Especially drink. That is why I wrote this 2 days ago during a brief period of sobriety. Hopefully it will turn itself on 1 January 2016 (GMT) so you may read it.
The first quarter of 2016 will be an exciting one for snus lovers around the world (where legal).
General Kardus Fäviken 2016 is one of the most exciting Kardus special edition snuses ever issued; at least since my favorite Kardus Superior Edition 2009 was released.
General Kardus Fäviken 2016 is very special for a few reasons. This year is the 150th Anniversary of General Snus, the world's largest selling brand of Swedish Snus.
As such, this year's Kardus had to be not only unique, but an exquisite expression of the soul of Johan A Boman who created General Snus in 1866 as reinterpreted by a comparable genius in his own craft today. This man is Chef Magnus Nilsson at Fäviken Magasinet.....
GN Tobacco (GNT), makers of the popular Oden's and Islay Whisky snus brands, is on a roll. GNT factories are running 24/7 to meet demand while new expanded facilities are under construction.
Under the Odens Snus brand, new flavors and variations are also being released one after the other....
Snus causes cancer? Here we go again. Yvette Brazier writing for anti-tobacco Medical News Today published yet another biased article with cherry-picked data, gaping information holes, and fuzzy logic attempting to show snus causes cancer.
Today, FDA issued a quite frankly poorly written press release entitled FDA issues first product marketing orders through premarket tobacco application pathway.
Since General Snus and the eight products Swedish Match sells over-the-counter (OTC) are involved, there has been understandable confusion. Up until now, the focus on US General Snus OTC products has revolved around the Modified Risk Tobacco Product Application (MRTPA) made by Swedish Match over a year ago.
In their General Snus MRTPA, Swedish Match is asking FDA to eliminate and/or change three of the four mandatory warning labels required on all cans of snus sold in the US. The most obvious are eliminating the cancer and tooth loss labels since they are so factually inaccurate.
Today's announcement concerns General Snus and the Premarket Tobacco Application (PMTA) pathway. Confused yet? I was after reading the FDA press release since they jumbled both PMTA and MRTP in a statement only a technocrat could love.
Psychology has always played a major roll in product development and marketing. Words like bigger, stronger, faster, better, and safer are only a few of hundreds of examples.
Read the active ingredients list on a bottle of Listerine. There is only one: alcohol. I get more oral health benefit from a couple of fingers of whisky and more enjoyment too.
Smokers who have switched to Swedish Snus have long been motivated by snus having the about the same risk factors as French Roast Coffee. In the 45 years since modern Swedish snus has been regulated as a food product by the Swedish National Food Agency (think FDA in US terms), there have been no documented cases of Swedish snus being directly responsible for tooth lose, gum disease, or oral cancer.
This peace of mind has made the transition from smoking to Swedish snus easier, especially for US smokers who have never used oral tobacco or who have a negative impression of smokeless tobacco through American snuff and chewing tobacco.
The mad scientists at Swedish Match took snus psychology to a new level a few months ago by introducing two snuses which potentially improve tooth and mouth health: The LaB 22 Slim White Mint Portion Snus and The LaB 24 Slim White Mint Licorice Portion Snus.....
For 2015, V2 Tobacco has released two different snus special editions: Thunder I Snow You Love Me Extra Strong portion snus and Thunder Frosted Christmas Extra Strong portion snus. I've been using both snuses today and here are my thoughts.....
