Bill Godshall - Institute of Medicine report to FDA on Smokeless Tobacco an Outrage

Institute of Medicine urges FDA to protect deadly cigarettes from market competition by far less hazardous smokefree tobacco alternatives.

Bill Godshall, Executive Director of Smokefree PennsylvaniaThe new Institute of Medicine (IOM) committee report on Modified Risk Tobacco Products is terrible for public health because it urges the FDA to protect deadly cigarettes from market competition by far less hazardous smokefree alternatives.

The IOM committee is basically urging the FDA to impose a several hundred million dollar tax on any tobacco company before it could truthfully inform smokers that a smokeless tobacco product is less hazardous than cigarettes.

While the report correctly points out that NRT products pose virtually no health risks, it ignores a half century a evidence documenting that smokeless tobacco products in Sweden and the US have very similar health risks/benefit profiles as NRT products.

The IOM committee report also ignores the undeniable evidence that several million smokers in the US and Sweden have already switched to smokeless tobacco products, and have significantly reduced their disease risks by doing so.

Snus News and Snus Lord Moe Unz is back!

As I always say after I am cut off at the local pub, "I shall return!" and I have.  This is me, Moe Unz, back in my rightful place as Snus eStore Manager of SnusCentral.com.

As you certainly remember, back on 27 September the SnusCIA reported the sudden death of SnusCentral.com Chairman of the Board Grandma Unz, a revolt by the Board of Directors, and my wrongfully being fired.  Their report listed me as lying on a hospital floor in critical condition from alcohol poisoning and not expected to survive.

The SnusCIA may be very clever, but they did not understand the strength of my genetically superior liver.  I woke up about 14 hours later and left for the SnusCentral Snus Store.  After a quick stop for some beer, I arrived to discover Grandma's Will had been discovered and I now owned 49% of SnusCentral.com!

After beating the traitorous Board Members with my broom, we came to an agreement on going on into the future.

I would be reinstated as Manager of the SnusCentral Snus eStore but with one big change.  Since it was exposed I was helpless in using a calculator and had no accounting sense, I am not allowed to set the pricing anymore.  That doesn't mean I can't beat the CFO with my broom to keep the prices as low as possible while still staying in business.  I enjoy doing that and will keep fighting to deliver you lower prices than anyone else.

Annika and her Customer Service Team are still hard at work giving you the best customer service in the snus business.  I personally test a can of each snus as it arrives to make sure it is the freshest it can be.  That is a hard job but someone has to do it.

Grandma Unz is still dead and will probably remain so.  Her death is still considered suspicious by the Lidköping Police and continues under investigation.

The most important thing is that I, Moe Unz, am back running SnusCentral.com.  I am sure you find this as exciting as I do.

Swedish Match Snus News

Our friends at Swedish Match have been very busy while I was gone.

Lab Series 06 Extra Strong Portion Snus, their first Ultra Strong snus having 20mg/gr of nicotine was released, then unreleased, and now is being re-released on 24 October.  We should have it back in stock very shortly afterwards.  Larry really liked the first version of 06 and is bothering me with emails about when I will ship him Lab Series 06.5.  Larry can be a pain in my buttocks sometimes.

He is also bothering me about the 7 November release of Kardus Carnival Blend 2011.  Thanks to Norway being allocated 200 of the 600 boxes of Kardus 2011 produced this year, SnusCentral.com is only being allocated 30 boxes.  I am meeting with Markus Ersmark of Swedish Match later this week.  My broom and I will attempt to convince him to increase our allocation.

This year's Kardus is reported to be amazingly wonderful.  If you do not wish to be left coughing on diesel fumes as the snus bus drives away, I would strongly recommend pre-ordering your Kardus Carnival from us as soon as possible.  Unless Markus has made special arrangements for me and Larry, we only have 28 boxes of Kardus which can be sold.  I did beat our CFO with my broom for the best possible price we could offer Kardus 2011 at.

Other Snus News and a party in Denmark

The Team from the SnusCentral Snus eStore plus Larry and his wife visited Denmark 7 weeks ago to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of V2 Tobacco, makers of the snus brands Thunder, Off Road, Phantom and some others you enjoy but are made for other companies.

Bill Godshall: Help Stop FDA from Stopping Cigarette Alternatives NOW!

Bill Godshall of Smokefree Pennsylvania

Please urge the FDA to approve Modified Risk Tobacco Product applications (per Section 911 of the FSPTCA) for smokefree tobacco products to truthfully inform smokers that they are far less hazardous alternatives to cigarettes. Public comment deadline is tomorrow, Friday, Sept 23.

To submit a comment, please see
http://www.fda.gov/TobaccoProducts/NewsEvents/ucm259201.htm
then go to

http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=FDA-2011-N-0443-0001
and click on the "submit your comment" icon.

Yesterday, Stan Glantz submitted a comment urging FDA to reject MRTP applications (including for smokeless tobacco products to truthfully claim they are less hazardous than cigarettes) because of misleading claims made by cigarette companies several decades ago (about the health risks of low tar/light cigarettes even though NCI, ACS and other health agencies and groups had made similarly misleading claims about low tar and light cigarettes).

To prevent smokers from reducing cigarette consumption and health risks and from being truthfully informed that smokeless tobacco products are far less hazardous than cigarettes, Glantz also urged the FDA to reject any MRTP application for a smokeless product if that product shares the same brand name as a cigarette (e.g. Camel, Marlboro).

Icetool Lid Box Portion Snus Can Review

First Look: The Sleek New Aluminum Lid Box for Portion Snus by Icetool

Once again, our friends over at Icetool have heeded our call and come out with yet another awesome snus product!

Icetool Lid Box Portion Snus CanI present to you the Icetool Lid Box for Portion Snus Can.  Like the newly released Icetool Slim Box for Portion Snus Can, the Icetool Lid Box Series is made from a single piece of aluminum for maximum strength and durability.

The difference between the Icetool Lid Box and Slim Box series is a catch lid; the Icetool Slim Box series doesn't have one but is also slightly thinner than the Icetool Lid Box series.

First off, The fit and finish of this can is impeccable! From top to bottom it is just sleek and stylish. This is something that I have grown to expect from Icetool over the years, and once again, I was not disappointed.

Both the top and the bottom of the can have a nice rounded, yet angular bevel making it take on almost a "UFO-Like" appearance.

The catch lid sits perfectly flush against the lid bolstering what somebody might even call a rather arrogant claim: "Icetool Perfect Snus Experience". Well, lets put that to the test, shall we?

Bill Godshall - FDA and Menthol Cigarette Ban: Tobacco Regulation and Control ?

FDA Tobacco Control still out of control

If nothing else, the menthol cigarette controversy in the US has widened the gap (created by tobacco harm reduction) between those whose goal is to responsibly regulate tobacco products to reduce tobacco morbidity/mortality and those whose goal is to ban the sale of whatever tobacco/nicotine product they consider politically attainable (e.g. snus, e-cigarettes, dissolvables, other flavored tobacco  products) if they repeatedly misrepresent its health risks and/or marketing.

On Friday, CTFK, ACS, AHA, ALA urged the FDA to ban menthol cigarettes.  Meanwhile, tobacco industry stock values increased, especially for Lorillard, maker of Newport, the nation's largest selling menthol cigarette brand.
