Are American Snus Users too Thin-Lipped?
Last week, Swedish Snus Ambassador to the United States Larry Waters received a small package from Markus at SMAB containing a single can of General Maxi Portion Snus. The SnusCIA immediately became suspicious.
As of 01:35 (GMT-6) Swedish Match has confirmed that General Maxi Portion Snus will be discontinued in mid-February 2010. General Maxi Portion is the largest portion packed snus in the entire Swedish Match collection of Snus Brands; each holding 1.5 grams of GothiaTek Swedish Snus.
The Maxi portion has been declining in popularity especially among new Swedish Snus users. With the exit of General Maxi, only Granit Maxi Portion by Fiedler & Lundgren will remain in the maxi portion category.
SnusCIA analyists theorize that Swedish Snus users in the United States are just too thin lipped these days to comfortably use Maxi portions. With the American economy still in shambles, massive public debt increases pending for Healthcare reform, Global Warming and unrest over the war in Afghanistan; everyone's lips seemed to be pursed in anger, fear, and disgust on both sides of the issues. As such, Maxi portions would make it appear that stressed out Americans were storing a golf ball in their mouths. In the wake of the Tiger Woods incident(s), that look is no longer fashionable; at least right now.
When asked for his thoughts, Swedish Snus Ambassador Waters commented "I was actually pretty happy to receive the can of General Maxi Portion. It is not in my regular rotation but I appreciated it especially on very long automobile trips. With new pouch technology innovations and the huge number of Extra Strong snus products which have appeared over the last 14 months, the sun may be setting on the need for Maxi Portions. General Maxi was the best of the Maxi Portion snuses and it retires with honors (unlike most of BAT's recent de-listings)."
Waters advised new snus users in America to buy at least a can of General Maxi Portion before it's gone. "Especially if you like mini portions or Lab Series pouches, General Maxi will be an Earth (and lip) shattering experience! Plus the empty can will be of value to any snus can collector. You can tell your Grandchildren (since you switched to Swedish Snus and will live to see your Grandchildren) that you were there the day the final curtain fell on General Maxi."

I was pretty P.O.'d when they dropped Grov Maxi, but it wasn't so bad since the General was still around. Now that they're dropping General Maxi, I'm at a loss for words. Granit Maxi is NOT an option for me.
I really can't express enough regret. To me, General Maxi was flawless. Big juicy portions full of flavor and nicotine. Classy purple on silver can graphics. Same great General taste, just MORE of it. And they lasted forever, unlike many regular portions.
I really think that General Maxi was a well kept secret for many snusers. I also think that the lowered portion count may have rubbed some the wrong way. But it's the closest portioned snus on the market to having a big fat pris of lös in your lip.
I realized when SM came out with the Lab Series that the trend is heading towards "smaller is better", and I can't really argue with that. The Maxi size never really caught on, and there's no reason to keep manufacturing something that just doesn't sell.
My only question is "why on God's green earth are they still making Probe, but not General and Grov Maxi?!?!?!?!?!"
