CAMEL White Portion Snus NOT De-listed!!!

CAMEL White Portion by JTI NOT Discontinued!

Rumors have been circulating in the Snus Community that JTI Sweden, makers of Swedish CAMEL Original Portion Snus and CAMEL White Portion Snus were about to or had already de-listed the CAMEL White Portion.  After much investigation, the SnusCIA has determined these rumors are completely false.

A reliable confidential source at JTI told our SnusCIA Agent in Stockholm "No, there is certainly no truth behind the rumor that we will be de-listing Camel White."  While not knowing where or by whom the rumor was started, he did have strong suspicions as to who would have the most to gain from this untruth.

With a cryptic smile, he told SnusCENTRAL that "it is very interesting that such rumors would be spreading right now – especially when you have in mind the new sales plan for Swedish retailers is coming up in week 45…"

So relax all you JTI CAMEL White Portion Snus lovers:  it is still here and not going anywhere.  It may be difficult to get in the USA, however, as Reynolds has begun filing lawsuits against certain internet snus retailers based in Sweden for allowing Americans to legally purchase JTI CAMEL-labeled snus products.

Reynolds Lawsuits against SPECIFIC Swedish Snus e-Stores:  A JTI CAMEL Snus ban for Americans or just dirty tricks?

Interestingly, Reynolds seems to be very targeted in their lawsuits.  A Swedish Internet retailer who also has an office in the United States is not only selling JTI CAMEL Snus into the USA, but selling Reynolds Camel SNUS products around the world in apparent violation of JTI's trademark and licensing rights.  Could the Reynolds lawsuit be driven by eliminating or hurting the major competitor of their  e-tailer who is a Reynolds Camel SNUS distributor in the US?

Too bad RJRT doesn't spend more money on developing a REAL SNUS product instead of on their stable of attorneys and questionable restraint of trade issues.   Developing.................

  1. These shenanigans are common when brands are shared by companies via license or otherwise in different territories around the world.

JTI and RJR are essentially powerless in this regard. They may have mutually signed contracts which prevent trans-shipping, but as soon as the product is sold, it's no longer theirs. The next step is to have distributors sign territorial exclusion contracts, but as soon as the product is sold, it's no longer theirs. And frankly, sales are sales, so territorial violations will be pushed slowly up the corporate chain in a tobacco company or buried.

As you say here, if RJR produced or imported Swedish Camel snus, and JTI Sweden did the same for the US product, the problem would disappear. And what's funny is that the US product was developed by F&L, and the Swedish product by JTI.
  2. Lucky Strike has also faced the same legal issues and both LS and JTI Camel are no longer for sale to the US from major online distributors. Enjoy what stock you have of these while its left, if you live in the US that is.
  3. Lucky Strike is owned by RJR in the USA, after Brown & Williamson (owned by BAT) was sucked into the conglomerate some time in the '90s or something. BAT has a stake in RJR via this transaction. Pall Mall is also an RJR product in the USA. Both LS and Pall Mall are pure BAT products in the rest of the world.
