Welcome to Snus, Snuff and Stuff. First of all, a Thank You to Larry who, after some severe negotiations, has granted me a section of SnusCENTRAL to share my thoughts on tobacco, politics and other things that capture my ADD-riddled attention for more than a few seconds.
I found snus in May of 2008. I learned my daughter has asthma and that spelled the end of my smoking in the house. Instead of giving up nicotine, I decided to see what this new “spit-less dip” was. Triumph Original was my first, followed by Camel SNUS. They were just enough to whet my appetite, and caused me to search the Internet to find out what this snus stuff was all about.
Larry’s original blog, The Unloading Zone, was my guide in those early moments, and led me down the Primrose Path as it were. Within days I was ordering REAL snus from Sweden. I actually placed my second order before the first one arrived. The first portion of Ettan Snus started a love affair. I have been a snus junkie ever since.
In October of 2008 I found snuff. Now to Americans that means Skoal or Copenhagen, but I'm talking about nasal snuff: dry finely ground tobacco powder. It is meant to be inhaled via one’s nostrils, although some Southern Ladies do use it orally. These two products have allowed me to live smoke free, (mostly, I still smoke a cigarette once in a while and love a pipe full of English Cavendish) and still enjoy tobacco.
The learning curve was steep for me. There were several people who helped me, passing their knowledge to the new guy, without asking for a thing in return. Larry Waters and Kevin O'Toole are two of those people, neither knowing the effect they were having on me nor even knowing I existed. Now thanks to Larry, I hope to pass what I have learned to a larger audience. Hopefully, I can help some other new guy or girl over the first few hurdles. Please feel free to leave questions or comments at the end of my articles.
Stay tuned. I will be doing some reviews, but reviews will not be the main focus. The main focus is to explore the world of smokeless tobacco and the challenges all tobacco users face today.
Sincerely,
Mick Hellwig
