Hello Everyone,

I'm a new snushead from Kentucky. I've been lurking here for a few weeks, and I've read many of your posts and other snuscentral.org articles. I feel like I know some of you already.

Like many of us, I am a (nearly) ex-smoker. I've smoked for 10 years and tried seriously to quit cold turkey at least 50 times (no joke) with mixed levels of success. I once abstained for eight months, but in a rather altered state of mind I managed to jump back on the train. Withdrawal is so hellish for me -- and ironically unhealthy, I am sure, when experienced many many times -- I have given up going cold turkey. I am sure my family thanks me. I felt that smoking may rob my health, but I could at least save my sanity.

Like many of my USA buddies, I was introduced to snus by Camel's American offering. I recieved a coupon for a free can at least five or six times, so I tried it. It felt delightfully novel to me, and I liked the concept, but SNUS was not going to replace cigarettes for me. The first time I tried it, I got sick. I blame that one on myself, though; I was thinking, "spitless, HMMMM?" and basically tried to swallow as much juice as I could while riding a bike home, just because (I thought) I could. I was feeling super ill after 20 or 30 minutes. I'm ornery enough to have tried it again, but I was certainly more careful with later portions.

Just recently, Marlboro SNUS launched here. It's *really* bad. It did, however, remind me of snus; I did some googling and discovered Swedish snus and this place. I ordered three cans - N&J Strong, General ES, and Scruf ES. One whiff of the General ES and I was hooked. The smell reminded me of earl grey tea. I knew not to smell the snus, yet I couldn't help myself -- I'm glad I liked it. But the important part is that each of my initial snus choices satiated my hunger for nicotine. I am finding it immeasurably easier to quit smoking with snus than to go cold turkey. Snus is fricken awesome in my book. Actually, don't put snus in a book. It will stain the pages, and the book will want more.

Anyway, I'm happy to have found these forums. I want to say thanks to everyone contributing here for helping me to understand and choose Swedish snus. This is a great resource, and the forums have a great atmoshpere. Signing out in KY, USA, I suppose I should say, "Thanks ya'll!"

and happy snussing.

Welcome! I was up in your neck of the woods all weekend. Kentucky's a beautiful state.

I think the whole "don't smell snus" advice is subjective- that was the first thing I fell in love with when I started snusing! I took a deep whiff of General and said "damn, baby- you smell sexy!"

Welcome to the site and Swedish snus, my Kentucky brother! Try several different flavors, and let us know what you think of them. If you have questions, ask away...we'll answer.

Welcome to SC Carbonrute! Yeah, the smelling the snus thing really is subjective, I loved it as well when I first started. But I've introduced a few people to it that took a whiff and ran for the hills

Enjoy your stay here, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Going from Swedish snus to Marlboro is like cheating on your wife with a fat/ugly woman...it just doesn\\\'t make sense to do it. -rickcharles606

Ehh, I was up in the mountains in Jenkins. Not only did I not get a signal on my phone, but when I tried to call you on the tin cans that my in-laws use for communication, they told me the wire wasn't long enough.

Ok guys,

I'm up to about 25 various cans of snus and I have about 40 more en route. I just started snussing three or four weeks ago.

Is this normal!!??!?!??

Either way, I will throw my two cents in for each kind I try. Where should I put that -- the "Favorite Brands" board?

Yeah it's normal. I had about 13 open at one point when I was first beginning to snus. Welcome to the site.

Yeah I started about 3-4 weeks ago and have already ordered 3 times. I have 14 cans in the fridge(all open) and 20 in the freezer. I only use a can every 2-3 days so I am going to back off ordering for awhile. I just wanted to try a bunch of different snus to see what I liked and disliked. Besides I can get several General products here in Louisville at a decent price of 3.70 a can, so in reality I dont really need to order as I really like General white portions a lot anyway. But some variety is nice.

It has been an adventure I never had when smoking. I smoked one brand and never varied.

texastorm, I had the same experience smoking -- same brand, always. It is interesting to find myself ordering 20 different kinds of snus at once.

Where exactly can I find General in Louisville? I'm in Frankfort -- not too bad of a drive. I have seen people here recommend using the General site to find a retailer, but for whatever reason, they couldn't verify me unless I mail some form and a copy of my ID. If there is anyone who wouldn't mind checking for a retailer for me in Frankfort, KY (40601) I would greatly appreciate it.

You're good. Now if you have all 65 cans open we might need to worry.

Not about you, just about the safety and health of the snus. It does dry out eventually.

I think all new snussers have many open cans at once. A lot of us older snussers have many can open also. I have 7 or 8 open now. I just can't settle on one or 3 brands. I, thankfully, don't have to, yet.

Carbonrute - I just logged into General's site and unfortunately they only list four Lexington stores as places to buy. I do know Cincinnati has three or four stores - don't know whether that helps or not. One shop is listed in Evansville, IN. That is about it. Good luck. Brant
