Sleep issues??? 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 17
Since I quit smoking (a whole two and a half days ago)and started snusing my sleep has been to say the least interupted. Don't know if I'm not getting enough nic in the evenings, or too much. Don't feel like it's been too much. Thus far I've just been using 5-6 General white portions and leaving them in for about an hour or so each time. When the portion gets a little used up, I kind of roll it around and give it a little chew here and there.

I guess my question is when do they lose their nicotine, or do they? It seems that when I roll it around or flip it, I get more flavor out of it, so I assume that if I'm getting more flavor I'm getting more nicotine. Don't know. General regular portions have around 8-9mgs of nicotine, and I've used around 5-6 portions a day that's 40-54mgs of nicotine. don't know if I'm getting enough.

Any ideas?

yea I think I'm on nic overload too, I had an Odens extra last night 17mg (i believe) about 8 pm. I think I fell asleep around 3am lol

I am not sure about when they lose the nicotine I would imagine when the flavor is gone but I really have no clue;)

I drink a ton of coffee too, maybe it's just the combo of the snus and the coffee. I suppose after about a week my body will normalize, once it gets used to the new dosage, lol

The caffeine will affect you as much or more than nicotine. Both being stimulants the combo could have some weird effects.

The studies I have read say nic peaks at around 25-30 minutes of use, and drops off slowly from there up to about 1.5 hours.ThatSnusGuy says 45-60 minutes for most snus. You should be able to notice the nicotine after 5 minutes or so. The new super starks seem to last a bit longer and hit a bit faster.
One of the reasons I started using snuff was the sloooow release from snus. Snuff gives me a quick hit.Actually quicker than cigs.

Yeah I notice the nic at about 3-5 minutes. I just looked up what a Camel cigarette's nicotine content is, and it said 1.1mg/cig. So that's a little over 20mgs a day if you smoke a pack and 30mgs/day if pack and a half like I was. So my nic levels are a little up, but no biggie. It's probably the coffee, because I've been sitting here thinking and I've been drinking waaaay more coffee. Guess I'm trying to compensate for giving up the smokes. Truth is, I'm not craving smokes, so whatever else happens..I'm golden. Who cares if I need to up my nic intake as long as I get off the smokes, that's what is killing me

Studies show that you actually receive about 30% of the available nic in snus. So 8mg translates to 3mg received per portion. Cigarettes may only have 1.1 mg but how many do/did you smoke an hour? Studies also show similar blood nicotine levels from a pack of smokes and 14-16 grams of snus.

Well, I'm just gonna keep eating them till I feel right...LMAO! They taste better than licking a damned ashtray and they keep me from killing my offspring or employees, so we're good!

Thanks for the info Mick. It's funny but I find myself telling everyone about snus, do all newbies do this?

LOL I did start telling my coworkers about it that were trying to get off smokes but apparently I wasn't convincing. They all went to the Njoy electric cigarette *shrug* They were all 3 DIE hard smokers and just couldn't imagine not holding something that resembled a smoke I guess and also to them snus seemed to much like american snuff to them

Rick , Yeah a lot of new snussers are like that. How do you think this site started? Mr. UNZ had to try to evangelize the whole country. He's still at it.

Wes, snus does seem to suffer from the dip stigma. Most Americans see it as a southern or hick thing and won't touch it. Oh well, more for us.

Well, I'm feeling especially evangelic these days. So much so, that I've given quite a bit of my first order of snus to family and friends. They're all pretty impressed with how I've been able to quit smoking. More American people need to know about this and frankly I'm a little pissed at Phillip Morris and RJ Reynolds for muddying the water with their lame ass attempt at snus. I'd love to be a distributor for swedish snus of all kinds. There needs to be an educating process for American tobacco users, instead of the die hard "anti tobacco lobbyists" running the show.

*steps down off of soapbox*

I yeild the floor...lol

I'm fairly new to snus as well, and when I started a few weeks ago I had a HORRIBLE time with my sleep schedule, which is already out of whack from being a college student. It seems to calm down when you get used to the nicotine content of snus. For me the sleep problem went away, hopefully it does for you as well.

Just don't use any strong portions near bedtime and maybe no snus an hour before bed. It'll solve any sleeping problems you have. Unless of course it's because you're an insomniac like me

Truly, I've always had difficulty in sleeping. Probably stems from when I used to work third shift many, many years ago. Never really have been right since then (some would argue that I've never been right). Had a good night last night, so I'm not too worried about it.

My ES will be here in a day or two, so I may be posting in this thread again shortly...lol

Re:Sleep issues??? 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 17
well, the sleep schedule has normalized now. Thank god, however, I am having some wicked ass dreams..lol

Dreamed that I had to piss so badly at work and none of the bathrooms were working for some reason. So I closed the door to my office and popped the lid to each and every can of snus I had (the area for used portions) and pissed a little in every can, then closed the lid for easy disposal later. Woke up and had to run to the bathroom and piss...LMAO

I dreamed that I went to bed with a portion in my mouth. Thenwoke up at about 3am and could taste the salt from my last portion before bed. I looked everywhere in my mouth for the portion, thinking that I really had gone to sleep with one in my mouth, hell I tore the covers off the bed and couldn't find it. Thought I had swallowed it..then realized it was just a dream. Wife thinks/knows I'm crazy..lol
