JTI has now prohibited all of their snus products from being sold in the USA.

SnusCentral.com has complied by removing all LD and Gustavus products from the site for the time being.

There is much confusion among all the manufacturers (and everyone else) about what and how PACT and the TCA affect non-US based internet snus stores with no physical presence within the United States.

This action was taken by .com not because of legal requirements, but because the Manufacturer has mandated it. More news and details when available.

That sucks. I had heard it was coming. Two of my top 10 snus are JTI products. Good thing I have a small stash of Camel and just got a roll of LD lös in Tuesday. Six months from now I'll still have some LD left. Unless Rick talks me out of some of it.

I received Gustavus and LD in my last pre-PACT order so I'll be OK for a while too.

This may not be permanent. I have an email into JTI asking for clarification as to why the ban. If it's FDA, a Swedish e-store with no US presence has perfectly legal solutions to some issues which a company with a US presence doesn't.

Ask yourself this: Why is FDA-unapproved imported snus banned in the US when prescription drugs can be ordered from Canadian and Mexican internet stores?

The drugs are in many cases expired/repackaged, have never been through FDA testing and certification, and are sometimes even just sugar pills.

Yet the Amerikan government, FDA, AARP, and doctors in general often recommend buying your prescriptions from non-US pharmacies as a way to save money. The post office even delivers them if you like.

Even the US version of most drugs have potentially dangerous side affects. Who knows what an unregulated foreign factory is making?

No FDA oversight going on here...and all of these pharmacies do not have a physical presence within the United States.......

TCA just went into effect a couple days ago. Everyone is feeling their way through it. In the case of US-based snus stores, the law is pretty clear. BUT for eStores not based in the US...open to a lot of interpretation.

There is no real tax money with Pharmaceuticals. Or cell phones. Beyond small tariffs in come cases and sale tax, which the Feds get none of. Banning tobacco products that are not heavily taxed is just another way of adding more money to the amount to be redistributed.

What I have read and seen in the TCA it only covers products manufactured or packaged in the US. Selling a snus from Sweden to the US would seem to fall outside that definition. JTI should be good if they aren't actually selling in the US. Small difference, but maybe legally important.

And my wife wonders why I have been so grumpy for the last few months! Started with healthcare reform and keeps getting better every day. Hell even my COD2 MW2 online account has been hacked WTF?

I think the Swedish manufacturers realize we have madmen running the country and they wash their hands of the whole thing. I'm positive that Skruf and JTI could be sold here out of the US, but I think the general consensus with some of the snus makers is "Why even bother?"

I think they figure that they'll end up shelling out millions for FDA approval and then the asshole president and his hired goons will just come up with another law or regulation that they have to work around. If you're not Swedish Match or BAT, then you don't have the money to keep throwing around.
