That is fine. PACT is mainly trying to stop people, mostly cigarette smokers, from getting by without paying their taxes. It hits snus, snuff and every other tobacco product as collateral damage. PACT is about stopping mail order tobacco. Buying form a B&M store is the goal.
From "big tobacco's" perspective it's about forcing people to buy in a store and not online. Bigger profits for the Gov and PM/RJR/B&W....

I think rickcharles said it in another thread (or maybe earlier in this one) that this is just the first step to taxation of all internet sales...just think how those in favor of PACT will howl when Amazon and the other giant e-sellers start laying the smackdown on your books, gadgets, and other goodies...I would laugh except I buy that crap too!

Big Govt. has to get there greedy paws on as many pennies per dime as they can. Hell, Obama is even talking about adding a VAT here on top of the sales tax we already pay. Life in Amerika in the 21st century is really heading down the crapper at light speed.

We've been on this path for a long time. It's just accelerating. As much as I'd like to lay all the blame at Obama's feet, I can't. Honestly I don't think he is smart enough to do this alone. I think this the culmination of plans laid many years ago, that happened to coincide with The O gaining power. Or more likely he is just another corrupt politician, that has figured out, or lucked into, using those plans to his own advantage.

It seems that if you make any anti-Obama statement, it will be liberally interpreted to be a racist remark.

Logically though, since you asked if he's just another corrupt politician, I think they'll have to work a bit harder to create any racist tone.

Mick is correct. Circumstances this year all came together...a perfect storm. PACT has been proposed for the last 10 years by the Anti-Tobacco Extremists. It got close to passing in 2009, but the clock ran out on Congress.

Take a Democrat controlled Congress, add Pelosi and Reid, add the worst economy in 70 years, a Democrat President looking for a legacy, New York State's hatred of the Seneca Nation for the tobacco and gambling income NY couldn't tax....

Add that smokers only make up 22% of the population now, that everyone is today and especially was the 4th quarter of 2009/first quarter of 2010, fixated on losing their jobs, their homes, the economy crashing and the deficit....

And then sneak PACT through in middle of the night on non-roll-call votes, have the President sign it very quietly and quickly......

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people going to notice PACT in the next few weeks. It's a little late for them to be catching up, but they'll notice. I've noticed a lot of talk about it in a couple other places I visit.
Seemingly one big loophole is pipe tobacco. It wasn't mentioned specifically in the law so all the pipe smokers and RYO "pipe cut" tobacco smokers are sure they are exempt. I have a wait and see attitude. I don't buy pipe tobacco online so it won't affect me. They don't use snus/snuff/ready made cigs, so they think it won't affect them. I think they are in for a surprise.

Sorry if it came off that it worried me. It doesn't. I've been called worse names by better than them. Names and labels don't bother me much. I know what I am and who I am. If someone wants to debate me they need to attack my points, not just call me names hoping I'll shut up. I won't. To many of my direct ancestors died in the service of this country to give me the right to say whatever the hell I want to. I will honor them by doing so.

it seems to me no matter which way u cut it were dicked. and i appreciate u standing up for what our ancestors and present troops do to save our rights. i am a rescently discharged aerial gunner for the usaf, so again i say thank you. and keep on flappin those lips man. its the american way, and we cant be kept quiet any longer!!

We are "dicked" in the short term. Things can and will change. The founders of this great country based their ides of government on "The laws of Nature and Nature's G*d" Those principles, being based in Nature and the Creation thereof will always win out over the desires of men to subvert them. I don't know when or how things will change for the better, but it will come. It may take a complete worldwide reboot, but it will come. Long term, say 25 or 50 years from now things will be so completely different we won't recognize what we are living today as real.
