Short answer: it will probably become much more expensive and harder to get. Optimistically, it will just become slightly more expensive, and still harder to get.

more than likely, I will be buying my main snuses (General products) locally because I'm worries shipping will be expensive and I can pick it up here, the ones I know they don't carry locally I will order online and in rolls to save on shipping, but will still cost alot. But still cheaper than smoking.

It still has a little way to go before its official. If we are lucky, it will collect dust and get thrown out.

Being realistic.. this isn't likely to happen. However, we still have a small chance that it wont go anywhere. Hopefully at least not for a very very long time.

It's a sad day for us snussers.

Number2, The PACT will require all the taxes , state and local to be paid by the seller. Which means shops will have to track 50 individual tax rates, plus the Federal rate. It also bans shipping by USPS. There has been talk about UPS an FEDEX not shipping tobacco either, but from what I gather that is limited to a couple states. NY being one.
The other biggie is age verification.Basically the UPS driver will have to check your ID when the package is delivered.

What all this means for most of the country is doubling our price per can. Between taxes, increased shipping and admin fees for keeping the paperwork done. In Ohio the tax rate is 17%, in Cali it's 50%. In PA there is no smokeless tax. Just sales tax.

Chad, I wish someone around here carried General. For me it's 2 hour drive to the closest snus. Well not counting my freezer.

That's half of the age verification check. The eTailers are now also responsible for checking age via a government database at time of sale. Also with correctly labeling the package.

As for the UPS driver, HE is the one who gets nailed if a package goes to a minor. One year in prison and a $5000 fine.

If you were a UPS driver with a family to feed, would you risk delivering any package labeled 'tobacco' knowing it could be the Anti-All-Tobacco Nazi's setting you up?

That's why PACT also exempts and protects the common carriers from lawsuits if the company/drivers simply say "we're not going to risk it"

Even when done in strict accordance to the Pact Act, everything possible is being done to discourage internet/mail-order tobacco purchases. I think Congress watched The Godfather too many times.

I was suprised when I was using the General website and searching and found that place. So me and singlemalt are covered in Arkansas.

They sell General White, Original, and Los....I think that's it. The guy said he has a few regulars who buy snus, but that's about it, so they don't stock much else. I told him if he could get General Sterk and Nick & Johnny I'd be in regularly.

I don't know how that kinda stuff works, I know a guy in LR that does wine and owns a liquor store and orders Citrus Wine from Florida for me as a "custom order", I wonder if the snus retailers do that too.

So it seems, at some point all I can look forward to, is driving 2 hours to Dallas, and buying snus I don't much like. I'm afraid I'm going to get tired of using snus I don't care for, and start looking for other options.......

Okay, so a little research.

Store #1 (US Store) - Very limited selection.

UPS $19.06 on one can. (2nd day) 2nd Day Air
UPS $8.62 on one can (3-4 days) Ground

UPS $14.92 on 1 roll (2nd day) 2nd Day Air
UPS $8.08 on one roll (2-3 days) Ground

UPS $14.92 on 2 rolls (2nd day) 2 Day Air
UPS $9.08 on 2 rolls (3-4 days) Ground

Store #2 (Swedish Store)

UPS $31.87 on one can. (3 days)
UPS $35.60 on one roll. (3 days)
UPS $39.33 on two rolls. (3 days)

Store #3 (Swedish Store)

UPS $26.41 on one can (1-3 days)
UPS $26.51 on one roll (1-3 days)
UPS $29.22 on two rolls (1-3 days)

Only about 3 or 4 stores offer UPS at this time.

About 4 or 5 other stores I checked out do not have a choice in shipping, they all ship via USPS/Swedish Post.

So how you look at it, it will be around 20 bucks plus for shipping with the way we have to do it now. If you have to drive somewhere, you'll more than likely spend more than that in gas, so it looks like ordering online may still be the best way to go. Granted, shipping will be more than what we're used to paying, of course, but still looks cheaper than driving a few hours to get something you don't want.

And of course it looks like buying in bulk is the way to go, as its almost the same price as one can.
