Camel Orbs 3 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 34
I am not a snusmaster, I don't even play one on TV. I am a tobacco addicted American who has a love for snus, a developing affair with nasal Snuff, and trying to get off cigs. Having said all that I thought I'd offer a quick review of one of the new Camel offerings.

Camel Orbs Mellow. Local cost was $3.75 plus taxes. Nicely sealed box, nicely made box, with built in dispenser. To make it " child proof" you have to push a button on the back and pull the bottom out at the same time. A little tough to do, and it's a stiff action. Not a one handed operation.

These are made to be used like a breath mint, put it in your mouth and allow it to dissolve.Lasts 10-15 minutes. I wasn't really timing it.

15 orbs per package. Flavor is similar to the new Mellow snus, with a bitter aftertaste towards the end of the orb. It is not as sweet, but close. Nicotine seems to be in line with Swedish snus, but I may have just had plenty in my system and didn't notice a big difference.

Instead of trying to describe the size I took a bad picture. The Orb is on the left, on the right is a Stonewall tablet ( this may be the competitor of the orbs), on the bottom is a Mocca + mini portion. As you can see the orbs are quite small.

$4.00 for 15 of these seems like a incredible profit maker. A Stonewall 20 pack runs $1.99 and they last for an hour or more, with better flavor.

After trying them I am more willing to believe these are a throwaway product to make the antis happy and save the snus. I suppose they would be OK if you are a smoker and have a long meeting, but as a cigarette replacement they will fail.

I am not a fan of Camel Orbs. I may have had to high of hopes but I am again disappointed.

I hope this review is helpful, and readable.

UPDATE October 2009: Read Mick's FULL review of all the Camel Dissolvables including Orbs, Sticks, and Strips.

yea those look incredibly ridiculous
i work at a sunoco
and was trying to quit smoking
(not going to happen when you get free cigs everytime you come in and when theyre right above your head all day its like trying to quit drinking if you own a bar)
but anyways
the owner thought it would be nice for me if i had one of those ariva things
he more or less chucked it at me and said here this should help you quit
ahh
it was like taking a horrible fiber horse pill
nasty
(i didnt swallow it haha)
but it was just so horrible tasting and it felt like i was 10 yrs old again and trying to hide a multivitamin under my tounge so i didnt have to take it
(for some reason i hated those when i was little)
i dont think ill ever try nicotine candy, losenges, or compressed tobacco pill things

on a side note
cause all the nicotine from snus in my system i have awesome descriptive dreams a lot now
well
i had one about this orb stuff

[end rant]

Ahh, man.
I fell asleep on the couch tonight with a snus in, and was dreaming of pyramids on icebergs floating by in the sky.
I bought 2 packs of those stonewalls - wintergreen and coffee. 40 pills in total, and there's still 36 of them in the drawer after 6 months...
Camel needs to go DIAF.

DIAF = die in a fire

As far as I'm aware, nicoteen is a browny-clear, slightly sour-tasting extract; so why not make sour gummy bears with it?

Even better, why not have nicoteen infused coffee and beer?

I have heard of some people lately that steep their snus in their drinks. Apparently, they say it's pretty cool and gives you a stronger nic buzz than snus itself. I haven't tried it yet, but I might get around to it.

Edit: A neighbor just told me that camel snus showed up at the corner store. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I've gotta try it. I'll let you guys know how much I hate it when I get some.

Talk about taking one for the team.

I could get used to Camel Snus if it ever happens that my access to Swedish snus dried up. With more tobacco shops starting to carry the good stuff, I don't see that happening.

I tell you what it sounds like; sounds like junior marketing came up with the idea for snus after a meeting requesting research on alternatives to smoking. Upper marketing got it pushed through as a test product, and into manufacturing, then upper management freaked out about the possible impact to (hugely profitable) cigarette sales, so they had to doctor the quality/nicoteen content/price/weight to suit the managements idea of a sales model.
In the past I may have concluded that any decision by the large ciggy makers was purely driven by profit and maximizing survivability. Now it just look like they messed up.

No, it seems the Sticks are not quite out yet. Still in the coming soon category.

Cruz, I am not sure about your theory. All the swedish manufacturers that are making "american" flavor snus are going the sweet route also. So the sweetness may be a marketing thing. The nicotine levels in the Camel products actually seem pretty good. I know MrUNZ's research found Triumph is low nicotine, but he was told that Camel snus is 8mg. MAybe RJR did all the research and R&D to have a tax write off and ruin the name of snus, so their competition would be lessened. Who knows?

Sweet snus! Yummy! I can't wait to get another fix of high-fructose corn syrup, made from genetically modified corn, and genetically modified enzymes! Just makes my mouth water thinking about it.
