hwagner, it may not be just you. I keep hearing there is a chocolate flavor in Ettan. I have tested quite a few rolls of Ettan, lös and portions, still can't find it. Maybe I'm immune to chocolate.

I defiantly taste a chocolatey flavor in Ettan and even a nutty undertone, kinda like an almond hershey kiss

Ettan tastes just like chocolate to me. It should be called Hershey's Ettan.

needmynic,
I too am new to snusing (real snus that is). Like you I came from Camel frost and mellows (dont know now how I used them for so long!).
When I placed my order I ordered all kinds of different flavors, brands etc. The first can I tried was General white portions and it seemed to me like I had a salt packet under my lip. Nearly all of the others (except the Thunder frost) were also salty and I wondered how people were reviewing these as having "earthy, hint of citrus, herbal, etc". All I was getting is salt! I had like 20 cans so I kept trying different ones.
Well, after snusing for about a month now I must be coming into my own because I now am picking out those flavors others comment on in reviews. I have also found I like the non-flavored better than the flavored. My favorites so far (remember I'm new so I have a lot yet to try) have been Granit and Tres Ankare, just a nice tobacco/earthy flavor with subtle hints of other flavors coming through. I do like a flavored portion now and then for something different. I still find General just a tad too salty for my taste yet, but it is a nice smooth snus. My next adventure is trying out los!
Stick with it is my advice, it seems to be somewhat of an acquired taste.

Yeah, I don't taste the salt in any snus, even the ones considered the saltiest. I'm almost 2 yrs into my snus usage, but I stopped noticing it after about a month of use. Keep at it, and one day you'll start tasting the subtle greatness of snus.

@needmynic: What beaver22 said. Real snus is not just a shot of nic...it's an experience. Your taste-buds will keep changing so a snus you don't like today you may love in 2 months..and visa-versa.

In the last three years, my tastes and my rotation has changed numerous times. I have 1847 Original in my mouth now. I always disliked it but loved the 1847 White portion. Now I like both versions (for as long as my freezer stock lasts).

Only 2 different snuses (so far) I have never tired of: General Ekstra Sterk and Thunder Frosted ES. I like variety so I have others I love too; at least for a while. Those are the only two which have remained constant.

@hwagner: Ettan was too mild for me so I haven't used it for quite some time. I do have two cans of Ettan Portion in the fridge. That will be the snus I will open next...I'm really curious about the chocolate taste now too.

@Larry - After trying all three variations, I've decided that Ettan Lös is my favorite. I just can't get much flavor out of the OP for some reason.

I didn't notice the chocolate in the can of Ettan Lös I had, but I'm expecting some to arrive hopefully today, so I'll gladly make myself a guinea pig.

I get the chocolate very strong from the OP, and not at all from the White. Ettan loose tastes like chocolate only after I've had it in there for a really long time.

I really taste chocolate in the Ettan OP. After about fifteen minutes, the portion sticks to the gum line and oozes that hershey-esque goodness, with a nice mellow tobacco flavor behind it.

I haven't tried the Ettan yet. I ordered both los and portions in my last order (which is on its way to me as I post this). Can't wait to give it a try!

To mirror what you're reading from everyone else, I agree. Tastes change. I started ONLY doing flavored. The other stuff made me gag. Now? I use the other stuff and hardly any flavored. It's interesting. But true, your tastes will change and evolve.
