Marlboro Snus |
|
Manufacturer: Philip Morris Brand: Marlboro Submitted by: SnusCentral Staff Product Description: Philip Morris USA introduced Marlboro Snus in the Dallas/Fort Worth retail test market area in August 2007 and in the Indianapolis test market area in March 2008. Marlboro Snus came in 4 flavors: Rich, Mild, Mint and Spice. The Marlboro snus brand came packaged in a SlidePak that holds 12 pouches and utilizes something that Philip Morris calls "flavor strip technology". It was also the lowest nicotine products on the market with less than 2 mg of free nicotine per pouch. Marlboro Snus was never marketed as a reduced harm tobacco product. It is marketed as a discreet, spit-less oral tobacco product to use when you can't smoke. In 2009, Philip Morris decided to boldly change the Marlboro Snus packaging to a folded piece of cardboard with blister packs of 6 portions of Marlboro Snus. The retail price dropped to sub-$1.00 with the change in quantity and packaging. This quickly reverted to $2.88+ in the Dallas market. The are not refrigerated since they are packed in vacuum-sealed blister-packs. They don't mention refrigeration after opening but one would assume that's because six pouches shouldn't last you long enough to have to refrigerate them. Marlboro Snus is available at retail in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Indianapolis, and Arizona test markets, as well as domestic military exchange accounts. Marlboro Snus in foilpack has replaced Marlboro Snus Slidepak™ in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Indianapolis test markets.

Date added: 4.8.2009 Having just received the Marlboro "Red" in the mail, I have to say, it's better than the old crap in paper packs, but it still sucks.
It really smells and tastes like a Marlboro cigarette- cheap, sugar-laced tobacco that makes you cringe. I think they literally just grind down Marlboro cigarettes and stick them in a pouch. This is BY FAR the worst snus I've ever tried and by a pretty significant margin. Bear in mind that I even gave Camel a 2 star rating because it's somewhat tolerable if you've never tried the real stuff. The paper pouch is small, horribly dry, very painful and sharp in your mouth, and there's literally ZERO nic hit. None. I've tried it a few times from different locations thinking it might be better or that I got unlucky, and got the same result. I put it in, wait 15 minutes, get no hit, a painful lip, and then end up literally having to peel it (and a few layers of skin) off of my lip.
Not to mention the pack is what, 5 portions, and for 3 or 4 bucks? Marlboro must have been stoned out of their mind (and definitely not buzzed off this crap) when they ignored the focus groups and released this junk. When I was up in Portland last weekend, I saw Wal Mart selling Marlboro "SNUS" for 4.99! Such a rip off, I think I did a triple take when I saw that, and then put in a portion of Onyx :)
Don't waste your time with the Marlboro snus. Even if it tasted good (which it doesn't), and even if it had a nice nic hit (which it doesn't), it's in this horrible crispy paper pouch. Like if you took a piece of paper out of your printer tray and cut off the corner and made it into a little snus pouch. The edges and corners actually hurt when they poke into your gums. Horrible!
This was THE WORST SNUS I HAVE EVER TRIED IN MY LIFE. Yes, worse than Elixyr, worse than Olde Viking, Grand Prix/Tourney, worse than Camel, worse than Phantom, worse than... anything I've ever put into my mouth before yesterday.
I actually had a guy offer me a portion of Marlboro snus today, LMFAO. I whipped out all four of the cans of snus that I had on my person and began his tutelage with a portion of Nick and Johnny strong......
They are smaller than Camel SNUS. A bit bigger than a Swedish mini. But they pack a lot of awful in that little pouch.
I have a pack of the Rich flavor sitting under my keyboard. It will probably sit there till the end of time.
I hate seeing good snus go to waste, but then again, this isn't good snus, it's not even snus. More like flavored cig tobacco in a pouch. When you cut it open and compare it to moist snuff/Swedish Snus, you can tell that Marlboro snus is, in essence, cigarette tobacco. Plain and simple, it looks just like a cigarette dumped out.
I believe the moisture content is the same from what I heard last. Marlboro Snus has between 11%-12% moisture, while Camel "SNUS" has 33%, and Swedish is between 50%-55% (from reported sources). Jesus, that is a little tiny pile of tobacco dust!! Is there even any nicotine in it?
Just be prepared for a portion that feels like sandpaper in your mouth. The flavor lasts like five minutes and other than the peppermint (I think) they are really horrible. And such a deal! 6 for $2
I tried the Rich while I was in CA visiting over X-mas. It was super dry and smelled so strong. I ended up only using about 3 portions and tossing the rest :D Had to try it though.
The mild and rich made me want to hurl just opening them Made me think of a cigarette. Now why would anyone want to break a cigarette, stick it in a tea bag and suck on it? Saying something about the dryness factor also!
And at .50 per portion of dry, nasty, flavor and nicotine-lacking manna from heaven why are we bothering to use these silly Swedish products when Marlboro snus is available!?! I got some of this about 9 months ago as a freebie, and it was like putting a razor in your mouth. The material is terrible..I guess it acts as a distraction to the flavor.
With Marlboro snus, don't forget about them somehow fitting a pound of syrup in each little bone dry portion. That's some kind of Marlboro VooDoo Magic they have going on in the factories...
Although I preferred this to Camel snus, as it has a much better flavor, it's still nothing at all to marvel at. Better shaped pouches than Camel also, more rectangular as apposed to a mini roll of quarters shape. Hardly any Nic in it, and only 6 pouches per container wherever I am able to buy them. Peppermint and spearmint are the only ones worth trying if interested in starting snus but don't want to buy Swedish snus (Buy Swedish snus, any kind is better than the crappy American brands). Mellow and Bold are gross.
I was waiting on my first order of Swedish Snus in the mail and decided to try out the "New" Marlboro snus. I was quickly a one time purchaser. They only have 6 per package for the same cost as the Camel Snus. The smell of the Mellow and Bold are nauseating. And the peppermint and spearmint have some flavor it does not last long and feels like sandpaper in your upper lip. There is no nicotine in these and they are the driest things I have stuck in my mouth. I have now been using the Swedish snus exclusively since my first order and don't ever see myself purchasing another of the Marlboro's. I'd sooner go without if it were my only choice.
