Hello and welcome, gentlemen.

As a General snus user and someone whom has converted several of his "American smokeless tobacco" using friends, I am eager to see your product available nationwide.

First, how will you overcome the negative image of snus created by Camel, etc., in the markets they tested in? I live in Louisville, Ky, and as a test market for "fake" snus, many folks I talk to in cigar shops seem dismayed with those impostor products.

Secondly, whom would I need to contact in order to be a crusader 'ahem" representative for your snus in my part of the US?

For the sake of good taste we will never comment on our competitors products. However if what you say is correct I guess we can only hope that people like you will share their positive experience of snus to others and explain that the taste and production method varies between different brands.

I would like to know if the products for the American market are going to be sweetened to make them appeal to a more general user.

It seems that some products like wintergreen seem a lot sweeter than other flavors. Is this to appeal to dip users?

I do have another question...Would Swedish Match ever consider having some American based "Focus Groups" or a group of testers that try out new products and give extremely detailed reviews about what they try?

Being as in love with snus as I am (and everyone on this board), I think it would be extremely beneficial to all parties involved with something like that. It would give you as the manufacturer an idea of where you are at in development and the participants get to be exposed to new and exciting products, which would help them determine what they would like to add to their snus rotations.

Overall, I see something like that as an extreme "Win/Win" situation

Hi Brian!
Your right about General Wintergreen being sweeter than other flavours from General Snus. At least that’s my personal experience as well.

There´s no special plan to develop sweet flavours to appeal dippers but rather a general ambition to develop products that the American customers want. From our efforts to understand this, we decided to develop Wintergreen and we hope that people will enjoy it.

Yes indeed! Actually we have already tested our products with an all American focus group and I guarantee that we’ll do that again.

I agree with your win/win analysis and I think this is something we would probably consider doing. Let’s find a good set up to do this!....

I participated in a Swedish Match Focus Group earlier this year (no, they did not realize it was me. I was randomly chosen by the Research Company)

It was indeed a win/win and I believe I won over two Camel SNUS users! Beyond that, I'm not allowed to talk about it. The Research Company made me sign a huge non-disclosure agreement and photo-copied every form of ID I had on me.

I'm very confident Swedish Match will continue and refine these focus groups into the future.

In response to the focus group thing, that would be a great thing to do. Let me know if this is possible to do again. Maybe we can get it started.

I would like to see General available at local retail stores, and not just as a speciality product available at select specialty shops.

I believe it must overcome the need for refrigeration storage. Perhaps another step of sealing the product in a foil bag, and then placed in the can could do this, as well as extend shelf life.

If Real snus is going to catch on in the US it has to be readily available and well priced in retail stores, on the shelf next to Red Man dip. Please examine this. Especially if mail order is halted. It can't be that hard to figure out a way to do this. Thanks.

Hi, I recently found a store in the US (cigar store) that sold General Snus in my area. Very happy with the product. However after reading how much less harmful true Swedish Snus is compared to the products that Camel and Marlboro offer, I noticed the health warning on the side of the can that reads " Warning, this product may cause mouth cancer". now I realize that any form of tobacco use has its health risks, but from my understanding properly made/processed Snus has much lower risks for associated health issues like cancer than US alternatives.

I have two questions:

1. Is that warning on the label just because it is imported into the US and therefore subject to US health warning labels, in spite of the fact that its risks are far less than the alternatives?

2. If General is to be bought out by a US company will they destroy the quality of the original product by reformulating, cutting corners, processing it with the same dangerous chemicals and curing processes like US snus or will they adhere to the strict requirements and high quality the Swedes use for their food grade products?

Just asking because if the latter is the case, I will have to find a new product.

Hi Dave,

US law requires the warning symbols to be there.

The snus that we sell on US soil are made in the same factories and follow the same strict requirements that the snus we make for the Swedish market. It is exactly the same product. You needent worry at all that we would ever change our standards.
