I am an regular user of general wintergreen and general original portions. The wintergreen portions for the past 2 months keep splitting open on the seam. Never have had this problem with the general originals before I don't torture the portions at all just every once and again use my tongue to gently press down on it to release more flavor when it weakens. The current roll I'm using expires 09/Jan/10. The previous roll exp was 10/Dec/09

I dont use the wintergreen ones but I have in the past and had that same problem.I think it has to do with the wintergreen flavoring agents.Like oils or something.Just a thought.

I love General Wintergreen and I am having the same problem. My last two orders have been real bad, the can I opened this morning actually had six portions that were not sealed at all and it seems like every other one breaks open real easy. I'll still order them because I like them that much. Hopefully this can be corrected by swedish Match in the future.

I am no expert but most of what I use on a day to day basis consists of General Wintergreen. I have had the same problem though I found that if you are very gentle and hold the portion on it's side seams when you squish it into shape, that it will hold together. Also try not to shake the can really hard or anything (I.E. Keeping snus in your pocket while running after a nearly missed train...) as this will burst 1-2 portions making a mess of your can. I wonder if they made a General Wintergreen regular portion if the water would help keep the adhesive from unbonding or if that is why there isn't a General Wintergreen standard portion yet.

This is what I was told by a Swedish Match rep;

The issue stems from a combination of the wintergreen flavoring and the food-grade adhesive that keeps the ends together. Occasionally, these two ingredients don’t meld well together.

We are working towards a solution with our R&D department, but have yet to find one that is acceptable in meeting the quality standards (in terms of flavor) that we look to deliver on the General brand. The issues are too few and far between for us to justify the wholesales changes that have been proposed to this point.

I have the same issue(I wouldn't call it a problem because if your creative enough you can get the snus to stay inside even if one side is broke open). I love general wintergreen and have 5 tins on the way. That is great that the company is actually responding to an issue brought upon by consumers. Some companies could care less.

I have had this same problem. For me though this problem has only shown up when I get General Wintergreen in an American tobacco store. Which makes it worse because it is $6.00 a can.

I'm on my second can of General Wintergreen and I haven't had this happen at this point. This might sound strange, but I wind up taking the snus out of 2 pouches to do a pseudo bake. I wish they made a loose wintergreen.

SM has been working on getting the portions to not break, maybe they've finally got it figured out.

My last roll of nick and Johnny black had same problem. Have to be very gentle or end would come open.

I found this thread since I am having the same problem with my General Wintergreen and your post was 10 months ago so it appears as though they have not quit figured it out yet. Between the portions breaking open and the fact that they tear my gums up I guess I just have to stop using them. Kind of sucks though because I love the taste and they were my regular to use between ES portions.

I've had this problem with General Wintergreen too. Mine haven't split down the seams, but one side always seem to open.

I picked up some Jak's Strong Wintergreen today, and have no problems with it. Plus, it tastes much better than General Wintergreen.

Jak's Strong Wintergreen tastes exactly like Grizzly Wintergreen.

It seems like this is still a problem. General Wintergreen is my favorite snus. For the month of July I have been attempting to try as many other snus as I can. So far, General Wintergreen is the uncontested winner, but the last couple of cans have had this problem busrting open on me while placing it under my lip. The can I opened last night has had 8 pouches break open on me.

I sure hope you guys get that problem solved soon....This stuff is too good to throw away....

@Rooster55. I thought the issues with the Wintergreen portions were resolved a while back too. I emailed your post to SM in Stockholm. I'll let you know what I hear.
